Mackenzie Johnson, better known as MAKJ, uncovered a passion for mixing and DJ’ing at only 15 years of age while living overseas in China as a professional racecar driver. The teenager soon grabbed hold of his first set of Technics 1200 Turntables and the rest was history. As a 17-year-old, Johnson made his way back to the United States with a unique outlook and greater ambition than ever before. The insight Johnson acquired abroad gave him incredible local momentum; Johnson found himself repeatedly invited to DJ countless local university and community college events in his home town of San Luis Obispo, CA. It was at this age that MAKJ also received priceless DJ’ing tutelage from one of the best in history, the late great DJ AM himself, who trained MAKJ in the art of scratching over the course of several one-on-one lessons. Honing and perfecting his skills over the past several years, MAKJ has DJ’ed at premier venues all over the U.S. including Avalon, The Hollywood Palladium, XS, Ruby Skye, Pacha, and Liv, and has also toured and played extensively all over North America and globally. He also performed at the 2013 Ultra Music Festival in Miami and earned himself a slot on the Main Stage at the inaugural TomorrowWorld event in Georgia. Fall 2013 saw MAKJ embark on his first cross-country bus tour with Bingo Players and Bassjackers which hit virtually every major market in North America.
Max Graham needs no introduction, with Trance hits like “Sun in the Winter” and “Nothing Else Matters” and his legendary DJ sets he knows how to make, and play, records that get the dance floor moving.
In 2010 Max released the first artist album of his career entitled RADIO, This album spawned such hits as “Sun in the Winter” (feat. Neev Kennedy) and “Nothing Else Matters” (Feat Ana Criado) both strongly supported by Markus Schulz and Armin Van Buuren to name a few. To further this massive year, Max released Volume 2 in his successful Cycles compilation series, delivering a double cd of perfectly programmed melody, energy and emotion backed up by the newest addition to Di.fm’s Progressive Station entitled “Cycles Radio”.
2011 saw this momentum continue with “So Caught Up” (feat Neev Kennedy) which has been a mainstay on all the big radio shows and a top ten seller on Beatport and his Late night stormer “F.Y.C” showing that even with the more sensitive vocal’s he’s been releasing he can still make a banger. This past year also saw him release Cycles3 (Double CD) and take Cycles Radio weekly (every Tuesday at 12noon eastern on the DI.FM DjMixes Channel) which has grown into an event with live twitter interaction and quite a loyal following.
2012 has seen the continued growth of his record label “Rebrand Records” as well as the increasing popularity of his radio show with thousands of downloads each week. He also continued the Vocal hit parade with a collaboration with Star Vocalist “Susana” entitled “Down to Nothing” and Trance top 10 single “Still There’s You” with “Jeza
Even though he’s considered a “Trance DJ” Max is never one to stick to a single style of easily marketable music, but rather follows his own path of finding great tracks from so many different genres. At one of his sets, you’ll hear House, Trance, Progressive and Techno, but if you let go and trust you’ll have the night of your life

Something is shifting in the world of elctronic dance music, there‘s a new approach emerging in the sound of the 21st century. In a time when everyone is striving to make songs bigger and louder to fit the popular big-room sound, its refreshing to see artists like Jewelz & Scott Sparks tone it down and take a minimal and more defined approach on productions.
This german producer duo that brought the dance floor banger, “Toxic Rush”, a track stripped down to focus on what the culture of club and dance music is all about, have returned with the release of “Flashbang”, a track that follows suit in the signature sound Jewelz & Scott Sparks have established. First picked up and supported heavily by Flamingo Recordings labelhead and Hollands superstar Fedde Le Grand, the upcoming producer team is setting up another single on Cr2 Records.
The unique sound of their production`s pounding bass and steady kicks are already moving crowds at events like Sensation and Electric Zoo NYC, thanks to David Guetta and Flamingo Recordings label boss Fedde le Grand. Coming out of nowhere, Jewelz & Scott Sparks are already gaining huge support in the major league of Dance music from acts like: Sander van Doorn, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Chuckie, Paul van Dyk, John Dahlback and many more.
Needless to say, it seems that they are ready for a breakthrough in the dance music world, with just two singles putting their name on the map.
A duo not to be missed!
DJ Mag Canada sat down with Jewlez & Scott Sparks and asked them a few questions about their career so far
DJ Mag Canada: Tell us a little about your background and how you got involved in
J&SS: Both of us come from a very musical background. While Jewelz started out playing the piano, Scott first weapon of choice was the guitar. Jewelz got into Turntablism and Hip Hop culture as a teenager and started producing after being a skilled DJ. Scott on the other hand focussed on his producing skills before starting out as a DJ. We both met at music university in 2011. We were the only students who were doing this EDM thing at the time so we started to work together. The first track we finished was Toxic Rush.
DJ Mag Canada: You have a podcast how did it come about? What do you try and highlight
in your show?
J&SS: We host a radio show on our soundcloud page. It is called Rush Hour. We always like to play exclusive material like mashups and our upcoming releases in the show. Also we feature a "classic of the month" tune and a "last minute tune" - a song we both like which has not to be an EDM tune.
We get a lot of demos from upcoming producers to our email (firstname.lastname@example.org), so we feature some of them in the show, too
DJ Mag Canada: How were you first brought into the industry ? who found you?
J&SS: We both worked as individual artists before. Our project "Jewelz & Scott Sparks" was first recognized by Fedde Le Grand in 2012. Fedde signed our debut track "Toxic Rush" for Flamingo Recordings. By supporting our music from the beginning, he opened lots of doors for us.
DJ Mag Canada: Is there any new collaborations coming up soon? If so any you gives us
J&SS: We will release our first vocal track on one of the greatest labels out there in January 2014. It features a very talented female vocalist from Canada called Quilla. She did a great job on the vocals. It is a vocal track which still contains our signature sounds and our percussive style.
DJ Mag Canada: How do feel about giving out free music to your loyal fans via facebook etc?
J&SS: We think that it is important to give something back to your fans. It does not necessarily have to be music though. You can give away other goodies like backstage passes or free tickets, too. We also think that it is all about involving your fans today. They want to actively
take part in you as an artist more than just being passive consumers.
DJ Mag Canada: If you were able to decide the lineup for an entire night who would you
want to play with?
J&SS: In order of appearance: Chilly Gonzales, Masters At Work, Axwell, Fedde Le Grand, C2C, ZZ Top, Jewelz & Scott Sparks, Boys Noize, Popof, Sebastien L'eger

December 31, 2013 Solid NYE with Hardwell (Vancouver)
Some people’s lives change in a heartbeat. For Nicole Moudaber, it was a drumbeat. “I was
on holiday from university and went to the Tunnel Club in New York,” she says. “It was the turning point of my life. The drums reached me.”
At the time, Nicole was a student in London, a double-expatriate from her birthplace,
Nigeria, and her family’s home, Lebanon. House music threw open a portal to yet another world:a space of love, freedom, unity, and celebration. Whenever she had a chance, Nicole immersed herself in London’s underground nights like Trade, DTMP and Strawberry Sunday. After graduation her family summoned her back to Lebanon, hoping the straight-A student with a passion for social sciences would settle into a respectable job like banking or the family business, manufacturing. Instead, Nicole teamed up with a friend to introduce house music to post-war Beruit.
For their first party they lit up a mosque and an adjoining cathedral and had a thousand Christians, Muslims and Jews dancing together. The parties were hugely successful and grew bigger and bolder, bringing elite DJs to Lebanon – including many of London’s underground stars, and a Ministry of Sound tour. Unfortunately, the flamboyance and freedom of these events went against the conservative grain and Nicole became the target of police harassment. She decided it was time to find her place of freedom.
DJ Mag Canada had the chance to ask Nicole a few questions about her beginning, collaborations and her sets
DJ Mag Canada: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you got involved with making music.
Nicole: I began performing properly three years ago. I was a promoter at Turnmills London for six consecutive years, organizing my monthly night called Soundworx. I then went to Ibiza for two years, bought a house on the island and was forced to stay there and oversee the project, which lead to step away from the music world. When my project was completed, I decided to head back to the music I loved so much, but not as a promoter… but as a producer. I locked myself in the studio, not knowing where it could lead me to, not expecting anything in return. I just wanted to make the music I'm so passionate about. Carl Cox picked up on a few tracks, supported them on his radio show, invited me to play with him in London and Ibiza and everything spiraled from there.
DJ Mag Canada: What can we expect with the new label? Any collaborations in the works?
Nicole: My collaboration with Carl Cox is scheduled to drop next March. I'm putting the finishing touches to my project with Skin from Skunk Anansie, as well many original material from myself with remixes from Gary Beck, Guti, and Robert Dietz to name a few.
DJ Mag Canada: Which artists influenced the music you make today?
Nicole: I'm influenced by many amazing producers, but right now I'm very much into Chris Liebing. He understands techno on a deep level, as his music opened my eyes when I heard his music with Moby and Martin Gore from Depeche Mode. He's the only one that can combine rock and techno is such a manner that's tough, chunky and very emotional at the same time. It's hard to do this, and I've been trying to get to that point. When i spoke to him in length once on the phone, I understood the psyche behind it and this is when I had to rework my project with Skin (Vocalist & writer) and I must admit, I'm very happy with the result. It's very hard to work with vocals and techno, especially if you're using more than one or two words in the track!
DJ Mag Canada: If you could go to dinner with any artist dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Nicole: Tupac. He was a revolutionary rapper in hip-hop. His lyrics are very meaningful and he was an activist - fighting for rights, racism and social problems, which is what I am as well. His ideals are very similar to mine, and I’m sure our conversation over dinner would be very deep and interesting.
DJ Mag Canada: Do you have certain songs that you play in every set?
Nicole: Recently I can't stop playing Chris Liebing’s remix of Moby - "Lie Down In Darkness" and my new production called “Wrath Of Madness,” stay tuned for this one.
DJ Mag Canada: Is there any fresh news you want the fans to know about?
Nicole: I have an Intec EP coming out on January 27 on the release front, a date at The BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen with Chris Liebing for my label showcase – In The MOOD - on January 9. I’m also prepping for a launch party at Winter Music Conference, for my collaboration with Carl Cox where we will be playing B2B. I’m also preparing to launch a mega project in March, I can't discuss details at the moment, but for me it's the best platform an artist can wish for. I will keep you posted!
DJ Mag Canada: When can we expect you back in Canada?
Nicole: I'm back in February! I can't wait. I will be in Toronto and Montreal for a marathon session. I LOVE Canada!
